Mahmoud Al-Khatib, the president of Al-Ahly Club, issued an official statement announcing his retraction of the decision not to run for the upcoming Al-Ahly elections.

Al-Khatib's statement said: "To the great members and fans of Al-Ahly Club.. I have always vowed to be up to the responsibility, placing the interests of Al-Ahly Club before my personal interests; out of love and gratitude to this great entity, which has been a blessing after God Almighty.. For nearly 55 years, Al-Ahly Club has been - and still is - my first destination and source of happiness and pride."

He continued: "In recent years, specifically in 2023, my health condition has significantly deteriorated, as I previously announced. However, just a few days before the last board meeting I chaired, I received new medical recommendations and opinions, which indicated the necessity of rest and avoiding pressures; to prevent any procedure that may become necessary... And I swear to God that this was the first time I prioritized my health over everything else."

He added: "While I apologize for not running for a new electoral term, I have been greatly affected by the feelings and support of the members of Al-Ahly Club and its great fans... My sincere thanks and appreciation to all of them.... Accordingly, after numerous consultations, both friendly and formal, aimed at preserving the path of Al-Ahly as a priority, a formulation for the next phase was reached; to continue in a position of responsibility that aligns with my health condition, Al-Ahly Club deserves it... Thank you, members and fans of Al-Ahly.. 'The backbone and support' in all circumstances."
