Officially.. Approval for the Demolition of San Siro in Preparation for the Historic Project
Tuesday 30-09-2025
The Milan City Council approved on Monday evening the proposal to sell the "San Siro" stadium and the surrounding land to the clubs Milan and Inter, paving the way for the historic project that involves demolishing most parts of the current stadium and building a modern new stadium on the same site.

The voting result was 24 votes in favor and 20 against, following a session that witnessed sharp interventions among council members, where some criticized the presidents of the two clubs, Giuseppe Marotta (Inter) and Paolo Scaroni (Milan), with one member describing them as "old" after criticizing their policies.

The "Forza Italia" party played a crucial role after announcing its abstention from voting, despite describing the proposal as "not ideal"; however, it pointed out that the project, valued at 1.2 billion euros, would create new job opportunities, enhance infrastructure, and contribute to revitalizing the area.

With the number of votes required for approval reduced due to abstentions, the long-awaited decision was passed, allowing the two clubs to proceed with plans to build a new stadium entirely owned by them, thus ending decades of controversy over the future of San Siro.

During the session, amendments to the project were discussed, which included new standards to ensure comprehensive access for individuals with disabilities, in addition to initiatives aimed at promoting environmental sustainability in the new design.

Thus, a new chapter begins in the history of Italian football, as Milan and Inter prepare for a new era with a modern stadium that befits their European and historical stature, in a move described as the most significant in the city's sports infrastructure project in decades.
