Naif Akrd Shines as a Key Player for Olympique Marseille
Sunday 28-09-2025
Since joining Olympique Marseille in the summer transfer window, Moroccan international Naif Akrd has established himself as one of the essential pillars within the squad, not only for his defensive solidity but also for his leadership personality within the group.

In yesterday's match against Strasbourg in the sixth round of the French league, Akrd continued his remarkable presence, contributing to his team's (2-1) victory, which granted Marseille a temporary lead in the 'Ligue 1' standings.

Despite the absence of Italian coach Roberto De Zerbi from the bench due to suspension, he followed the match from the stands with great enthusiasm and praised the impact of the new signings on the team's performance, stating: 'Since the end of the summer transfer window, a lot has changed. We have won three consecutive matches by a single goal against strong teams like Paris Saint-Germain (1-0), Lorient (4-0), and Strasbourg (2-1), which proves that we have become more solid and realistic.'

When asked about the key names that changed the team's shape, De Zerbi selected the trio of summer signings: Naif Akrd: the defensive leader and pillar of confidence, Benjamin Pavard: a modern full-back with great experience, and Matt Oreilly: the surprise element in midfield.

He also praised standout stars like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but emphasized that the true balance of the team came thanks to the 'new backbone' led by Akrd.
