Tuesday 23-09-2025
The first football team of Al-Ahli reviewed its journey against Egyptian clubs ahead of the anticipated continental clash against Pyramids on Tuesday evening, as part of the 2025 Club World Cup competitions, where the Jeddah team has played nine varied matches, including official and friendly ones.

Al-Ahli Saudi has faced Egyptian teams in nine matches, seven of which were official and two experimental, against Ismaily, Zamalek, and Al-Ahli Egypt. During these matches, it achieved one victory, two draws, and six defeats, including two unofficial matches.

Al-Ahli faced Ismaily in the Arab Champions League in the 2003-2004 season, where both teams were placed in a group that included Ittihad and Sfaxien from Tunisia. The first match ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw in Jeddah, while the second match was lost 1-0 to Hosni Abd-Rabou.

In the next edition, Al-Ahli met Ismaily again in the quarter-finals, managing to win in Jeddah with two clean goals from Rogerio Pereira, before losing the return match 1-0 to Abdo Abd-Rabou, but qualified with an aggregate score of 2-1 before being eliminated by Sfaxien.

Against Zamalek, Al-Ahli Saudi lost in the final of the Dubai friendly tournament last year with a score of 3-0, with goals from Shikabala, Ammar Yasser, and current Pyramids player Youssef Obama. They also faced each other in an Arab competition in 2007, where Al-Ahli lost the first leg and drew the second leg 1-1 with a goal from Caio Cesar.

Al-Ahli Saudi met Al-Ahli Egypt in the semi-finals of the Arab Club Championship in 1997 in Tunisia, losing 3-0 with goals from Walid Salah El-Din, Ali Maher, and Hadi Khashaba. The team also played a celebratory match in Cairo in 1997 to mark the retirement of Ahmed Shobair, which ended 3-2 in favor of Al-Ahli Egypt in front of a massive crowd exceeding 80,000 spectators.

The record of Al-Ahli Saudi against Egyptian clubs carries a mix of official challenges and celebratory friendly encounters, which adds to the excitement of the upcoming match against Pyramids, set against a long history of competition between the two sides.
