Donnarumma Achieves Historic Milestone in the Ballon d'Or
Tuesday 23-09-2025
The website "Football Italia" revealed that Gianluigi Donnarumma, the goalkeeper for Manchester City and the Italian national team, ranked ninth in the 2025 Ballon d'Or standings, alongside winning the Yashin Award for the best goalkeeper in the world.

This achievement is the best for an Italian player since 2017, when the veteran Gianluigi Buffon finished third after leading Juventus to the league title and reaching the UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid.

The report highlighted that Donnarumma played a crucial role in Paris Saint-Germain's UEFA Champions League victory last season, thanks to his remarkable performances against major clubs like Liverpool and Arsenal, before transferring to Manchester City in the summer after the Parisian club decided to replace him with goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier at the request of coach Luis Enrique.

It is noteworthy that Donnarumma was the last Italian player to enter the top 10 players in the world in 2021, where he ranked tenth, returning after four years to the top ten globally.
