Tebas Sets Date for Villarreal vs Barcelona Match in Miami
Javier Tebas, the president of La Liga, revealed that the match between Villarreal and Barcelona scheduled for next December will take place in Miami, indicating that the aim of this move is to enhance the value of the tournament and expand its reach to another continent.
Tebas explained during his participation in the Business Sport Forum that the proposed date for the match is December 21, but he confirmed that the final decision is still in the hands of UEFA, which he considered illogical since the Champions League is the direct competitor of La Liga in broadcasting rights.
The La Liga president added that holding the match in the United States will give fans there the opportunity to closely follow their clubs, noting that Villarreal has more than 50 football schools in America, including 10 in Florida, along with a large fan base for Barcelona in Miami.
Tebas emphasized that this move is not just a single match, but a strategy aimed at entering a huge market that is considered the second most important after Spain.
