Eric Garcia Establishes Himself at Barcelona and Approaches Contract Renewal

Barcelona defender Eric Garcia has risen to a new status within the team following the departure of Inigo Martinez, becoming one of the key pillars in Hans Flick's lineup, according to the Spanish newspaper "AS".

Garcia has become a regular player in the first five league matches, having played the last three games in his preferred position as a central defender, delivering an impressive performance, excelling in building play from the back, quick anticipation, defensive reaction, and confidence on the field.

The player recorded remarkable numbers against Getafe, participating in 114 interventions, successfully completing 105 passes with an accuracy of 94%, including 23 passes in the final third of the field with the same accuracy, winning all aerial duels, triumphing in two tackle situations, and recovering nine balls, with only one foul committed.

Hans Flick said about Garcia: "Eric is an amazing player, he plays in different positions and competes wonderfully in each of them; having a player like him is a luxury for the team."

Garcia added: "I try to play for the team as best as I can in any position I'm asked to, and the more we win, the better it is for all of us."

The Spanish newspaper AS confirmed that Barcelona is planning to renew Eric Garcia's contract before it expires in June 2026, after completing the renewal of Frenkie de Jong's contract, with Garcia's turn coming next.
