Al-Hilal Considers Excluding Cancelo and Re-adding Leonardo to Its Local Squad
Al-Hilal is considering modifying its local roster in the coming hours, following the injury of Portuguese full-back Joao Cancelo and the likelihood of his absence from the pitch for a considerable period due to recurring muscular issues.
The newspaper "Al-Jazeera" revealed that Al-Hilal's management, in consultation with Italian coach Simone Inzaghi, is studying the re-registration of Brazilian striker Marcos Leonardo in the local list, while excluding Cancelo and limiting his participation to Asian competitions after recovery.
This move comes amid the urgent need to compensate for the expected absence of Cancelo in several league matches, especially since his muscular injuries have recurred multiple times since joining the blue team.
The Saudi Professional League Association has set Sunday, September 21, as the official deadline for modifying the rosters of clubs participating in the Roshan League, whether by adding new players or excluding names from the list.
Previously, Al-Hilal had included Cancelo in the list of eight foreign players approved for all competitions, while Leonardo was only registered to participate in the AFC Champions League this season.
The capital club is expected to finalize its decision soon regarding giving Leonardo the opportunity in local league competitions, making him an effective substitute in the attack, in exchange for temporarily excluding Cancelo from the local roster.
