The opening round of the UEFA Champions League has concluded, featuring intense matches and stunning goals from various European clubs.

The UEFA website announced the players and top scorers nominated for the Player of the Week award, which ultimately went to Englishman Marcus Rashford, the Barcelona forward, after his remarkable performance against Newcastle United.

Rashford scored two goals in the second half, the first came from a brilliant header following a cross from Koundé, while the second was a powerful shot that the goalkeeper could not save.

Rashford outperformed several star nominees, including Dusan Vlahovic, the Juventus forward, who scored two goals in his team's 4-4 draw against Borussia Dortmund, as well as Marcus Thuram of Inter Milan, who netted two goals in the 2-0 victory over Ajax Amsterdam, and Francisco Trincão, who scored two goals in Sporting Lisbon's 4-1 win.

It is worth noting that this exceptional performance reflects a strong start for Rashford with Barcelona in the 2025/2026 UEFA Champions League season.
