UEFA has announced the appointment of 41-year-old Bosnian referee Irfan Peljto to officiate the match between Real Madrid and Olympique Marseille, part of the first round of the group stage in the UEFA Champions League, which will take place on Tuesday, September 16, at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

Dutch referee Dennis Higler will take on the role of video assistant referee during the match.

Peljto has previously officiated two matches for Real Madrid in the Champions League, where the royal team achieved one victory against Leipzig with a score of 1-0 in the 2023/2024 season, and suffered a 3-0 defeat against Arsenal in the first leg of the last season's quarter-finals.

This will be the first time the Bosnian referee officiates a match at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

Peljto has also officiated two previous matches for Marseille, one in the Europa League and the other in the Europa Conference League, where the French team achieved one victory and one draw with him.
