The German club Bayern Munich commented on the future of French international defender Dayot Upamecano, amid reports linking him to a transfer to Real Madrid during the upcoming summer transfer window, based on the wishes of coach Xabi Alonso.

Upamecano's name has been associated with Real Madrid's policy of signing players for free after the end of their contracts, which is the same policy the club has recently followed with stars Kylian Mbappe and Alexander Arnold.

In statements reported by the reliable transfer market journalist Fabrizio Romano, Bayern Munich's sporting director Christoph Freund spoke about Upamecano's future, saying: "Dayot Upamecano is an exceptional player and has a wonderful personality."

Freund added: "Upamecano is well aware of his status and value in a great club like Bayern Munich, and we will see what happens regarding his future."

He concluded his remarks by confirming the club's desire for the player to stay: "We hope he continues with us for the long term; there is no deadline, but we want him to stay as long as possible."

Dayot Upamecano joined Bayern Munich in the summer of 2021 from Leipzig, and his current contract runs until the summer of 2026.

During this period, the French international has managed to win the Bundesliga title three times and is currently a key element in the team's defense under the leadership of coach Vincent Kompany.
