Newcastle United has received a significant blow ahead of the anticipated match against Barcelona in the opening of the Champions League group stage, as it has been confirmed that English midfielder Jacob Ramsey will be absent due to injury.

Ramsey, who recently transferred from Aston Villa for €45 million during the summer transfer window, suffered an ankle injury after a strong tackle in his team's last match against Leeds United, and will not be able to return until next October.

Coach Eddie Howe confirmed: "His ankle is swollen, and we had to take him out of the match; he will be out even after the upcoming international break, it's a big loss."

There are also doubts about the participation of striker Yohan Wissa, who joined Newcastle this summer for €63 million, after he sustained a knee injury while playing for the Democratic Republic of the Congo national team.

Regarding his condition, Eddie Howe said: "I don't know if he will be fit for the Barcelona match; he will travel for some tests and perhaps to see a specialist; I can't say more."
