Barcelona Recovers Flick in the Champions League
Saturday 13-09-2025
Barcelona received a significant boost before starting its journey in the UEFA Champions League, as the European football governing body partially accepted the club's appeal against the suspension of German coach Hans Flick and his assistant Markus Sorg, allowing them to be on the bench for the match against Newcastle United.

Flick and Sorg had been penalized by UEFA following events that occurred during the elimination match against Inter Milan in last season's Champions League, which were described as violations of general principles and sports conduct according to UEFA regulations.

According to the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo," UEFA's disciplinary committee decided to temporarily suspend the execution of the penalty, enabling Flick and Sorg to be present in the opening group stage match against Newcastle. However, they imposed a one-year probation period, during which the penalty would be activated immediately if any new violation occurs.

Despite the positive decision, FC Barcelona will bear the costs of the appeal and legal proceedings. However, the club's management considers that allowing Flick to be on the bench for the team's first Champions League match is a significant gain, especially after the painful elimination in the previous edition before reaching the final.
