Officially.. Metropolitano to Host UEFA Champions League Final in 2027
UEFA announced that the "Wanda Metropolitano" stadium, home to Atlético Madrid, will host the UEFA Champions League final for the 2026/27 season, following a meeting of its executive committee yesterday Thursday.
The Spanish stadium was chosen as it had been the frontrunner since it submitted its official bid last October.
Atlético's stadium outperformed the Olympic Stadium in Baku (Azerbaijan), which was also competing to host the final, while the "San Siro" stadium was excluded from the race earlier due to ongoing renovation works.
The choice of "Metropolitano" was based on several factors, most notably its classification as a "five-star" stadium and being one of the most advanced and modern stadiums in Europe, in addition to its previous experience in organizing major events, including the 2019 Champions League final between Liverpool and Tottenham, which left a positive impression on UEFA and reinforced the idea that it is an ideal venue for future finals.
Choosing the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium to host the 2027 final reflects the status that Atlético's stadium has achieved on the continental level, as well as the significant economic returns it will generate for the Spanish capital.
It is worth mentioning that this season's UEFA Champions League final will be held at the "Puskás Aréna" in Budapest (Hungary).
