Al-Ittihad Opens Negotiations with Anderlecht to Acquire Defender
Tuesday 09-09-2025
The management of Saudi Al-Ittihad Club has begun new moves to sign a young defender born in Saudi Arabia before the current summer transfer window closes, aiming to strengthen the defense for the current season.

Reports have revealed that Al-Ittihad, after successfully signing Malian Mohamedou Doumbia from Royal Antwerp in Belgium, has set its sights on acquiring promising defender Jan Carlo Simic from Anderlecht.

Trusted journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that negotiations between Al-Ittihad and Anderlecht are indeed ongoing, in an effort by the Saudi club to thwart interest from Italian Lazio, which plans to make a move in January 2026.

Simic, born in 2005, is one of the most prominent rising defensive talents in Europe, having previously worn the jersey of AC Milan before moving to Anderlecht, and his current contract extends until 2029.

This direction comes as part of Al-Ittihad's plans to bolster its squad with young players, following the signing this summer of young Portuguese winger Roger Fernandes from Sporting Braga.

These moves reflect the desire of French coach Laurent Blanc to build a solid defense that combines experience with young elements, to enhance Al-Ittihad's chances of competing for domestic and continental titles.
