Al-Shabab Club has taken serious steps towards signing Spanish midfielder Oriol Romeu, who has become a free agent after terminating his contract with Barcelona, according to informed sources for "Al-Riyadiyah".

The sources indicated that the club's management quickly opened lines of communication with the 33-year-old player as soon as they learned of his impending separation from the Catalan club, making him available for a free signing.

The information revealed that the capital club is preparing to hold a virtual meeting via the "Zoom" application in the coming days, bringing together a representative of Romeu and Al-Shabab officials to follow up on the negotiations in more detail.

Barcelona announced on Friday the end of its relationship with Romeu, thanking him for the time he spent with the team, which began in the summer of 2023 when he joined from Girona.

Throughout his career, the player has worn the colors of several major clubs, most notably Chelsea in England, Valencia in Spain, and Southampton, before returning to La Liga via Girona and then to Barcelona.

It is noteworthy that Romeu played last season on loan to Girona, participating in 31 official matches across all competitions, reflecting his extensive experience and ability to provide the desired addition to Al-Shabab if the deal is completed.
