Thursday 28-08-2025
Walid Regragui, the coach of the Moroccan national team, held a press conference on Thursday morning at the Mohammed VI Football Complex, during which he announced the list of players called up to face Niger (September 5) and Zambia (September 8) in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Regragui confirmed that some players will be absent due to injuries, notably Noussair Mazraoui, who needs more time to recover, and Sofiane Rahimi, who is expected to be out for 3 to 4 weeks, along with Abdessamad Ezzalzouli, who is injured at the ankle.

The list saw the inclusion of Nail Elghinawi for the first time, as the national coach explained that his addition provides the team with a new advantage due to his diverse technical characteristics, while emphasizing that competition for positions remains open.

Regarding preparations for the Africa Cup, Regragui confirmed that the final list has not yet been determined, noting that the absence of some names due to injuries has allowed him the opportunity to test new alternatives in sensitive positions, such as defensive flanks. He also addressed the state of the defense, admitting the lack of stability in the ideal lineup alongside Nayef Aguerd.

As for Hakim Ziyech, Regragui clarified that his absence is due to his current contractual situation, emphasizing that his return to the national team will be considered once he signs with a new team and regains his form. He also opened the door for other players like Mohamed Ihattaren and Ayoub Bouaddi, asserting that their future remains dependent on the development of their careers.

Regragui concluded by emphasizing the role of the Moroccan fans, considering them a crucial factor in the team's journey towards competing for the Africa Cup title, stressing that winning the tournament requires the collective efforts of everyone.
