Laporta Gets His Dream Match in the Champions League
Thursday 28-08-2025
Joan Laporta, the president of FC Barcelona, confirmed during an interview with CNN while the team was on a tour in Asia, his desire to face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League for the 2025/2026 season, a wish that was fulfilled after the announcement of the tournament's draw.

Laporta said: "We haven't played the final against Paris Saint-Germain, and I hope we meet this season thanks to the new system. Paris Saint-Germain had an excellent season winning the Champions League and Ligue 1, and they have a remarkable team and coach. Unfortunately, we didn't face them last season, but we were the most competitive and best-performing teams alongside the French team. We hope to meet this year to find out who is the best, with full respect for the other clubs."

Laporta also congratulated UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin for improving the Champions League competition: "I congratulate Čeferin on enhancing the tournament; he loves football and will enjoy the match between Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. We hope to have this opportunity next season."

It is worth noting that Barcelona will face European champions Paris Saint-Germain alongside other strong clubs in the new edition of the Champions League, which promises exciting and high-level competitions.
