Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim appeared in press statements following the elimination from the second round of the English League Cup, losing to Grimsby Town on penalties after a 2-2 draw.

The coach said: "In the end, it doesn't matter if we regained our balance or not, what matters are the messages the team delivered during the match, especially at the beginning. I believe the better team won, the only team that was present on the field."

He added: "The best players can lose because any team is capable of defeating a group of stars, and I believe the team and the players spoke clearly today, that’s all there is to it. We lost, and the better team is the one that won."

Regarding the intention behind that statement, he clarified: "I think what they said was clear to everyone, so let's move forward from this day and I believe what happened was clear to everyone."

He continued: "The way we started the match without any intensity, all ideas of pressing were completely absent, we were completely lost, and that's why I say they spoke very loudly."

He concluded: "Is the problem in goalkeeping? When you lose to a fourth-division team, the problem is not with the goalkeeper, but with everything."
