Al-Ahli Approaches Signing Young Flamengo Star
The management of Al-Ahli Club is nearing a final agreement with Brazilian club Flamengo regarding the transfer of young winger Matheus Gonzalez to the team's ranks, as part of the current summer transfer market.
According to exclusive sources revealed by the "Sports - Urgent" platform, if the Brazilian player arrives in Jeddah, he will be registered among the foreign professional category born in 2004 and above, allowing Al-Ahli to add a promising young element.
If the deal is completed, Gonzalez (20 years old) will be the fifth signing for the Jeddah team during the current transfer window, following the signings of Frenchman Enzo Milot, Abdulilah Al-Khaibri, Mohamed Abdul Rahman, and Saleh Abu Shamat, according to the Saudi Professional League.
The Brazilian newspaper "O DIA" described the player in a report in 2023 as "the darling of Flamengo fans," after his remarkable performance in the Carioca Championship and the Recopa Sudamericana, despite later facing rumors about his inclination towards Vasco, which he categorically denied.
Gonzalez has a notable record with Flamengo, having participated in 54 official matches in which he scored 6 goals, while last season he played 18 matches with both the first team and the under-20 team, contributing five goals and two assists. He was also included in the FIFA Club World Cup roster in the United States without actually participating.
On the national team front, the player represented the Brazilian under-20 team in one match against Mexico, which ended in a 2-1 victory for the "Seleção," without any direct contribution to the result.
