Barcelona Informs UEFA of Its Desire to Play at Spotify Camp Nou in the Champions League
Tuesday 26-08-2025
FC Barcelona has officially informed UEFA of its intention to host group stage matches of the UEFA Champions League at Spotify Camp Nou, provided that the current renovation phase is completed on time.

According to the Spanish newspaper "Sport," the Catalan club's management has met the deadline set for August 28, notifying the European body of its desire to return to its historic stadium, while keeping an alternative option ready in case the necessary conditions are not met.

The club is working to complete the first phase of the development, which will allow the side stand to open and increase the stadium's capacity to about 45,000 spectators, which is the minimum required according to UEFA regulations for broadcasting reasons.

The current phase has been completed, allowing the use of the Tribuna stand and the southern stand with a capacity of 27,000 fans, but it is insufficient from an organizational standpoint.

To gain more time, Barcelona's management requested to play the first round of the group stage away from home, which UEFA approved, giving the club an additional two weeks to complete the works before its first scheduled European match at home on September 30 or October 1.

If the permits are not issued in time, the club will rely on Montjuïc Stadium as a temporary alternative, as the usage agreement with the Barcelona Municipal Services Company has been extended until February, ensuring the hosting of group stage matches and potential knockout matches.

The final decision regarding the stadium that will host Barcelona's group stage matches will be made on Thursday, August 28, coinciding with the tournament draw in Nyon, Switzerland, and no changes will be allowed thereafter until the knockout stages begin.
