Officially .. Dortmund announces the renewal of Kovac
The German club Borussia Dortmund announced today, Tuesday, the renewal of its contract with head coach Niko Kovac until the summer of 2027.
The renewal for Kovac comes just a few days after criticism of the team following a poor start to the Bundesliga, drawing with St. Pauli "3-3".
Kovac took over as coach of Dortmund last winter when the team was in eleventh place in the league, leading them to qualify for the Champions League.
Borussia Dortmund's sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, commented on this move: "We are very happy to extend Niko's contract and his coaching staff. This clarity is important for everyone so they can fully focus on the season and upcoming tasks. We strive to achieve maximum success and want to approach every match with conviction, intensity, and passion. Niko and his team demand these values every day, and we believe that together we will continue the successful path we achieved last season."
Kovac stated: "We have achieved a lot together over the past six months and have put Borussia back on the right track. As a coaching team, we felt a great deal of confidence and a sense that we can make a difference here with the club and the fans."
He added: "The discussions that took place over the past few weeks have given me additional encouragement: we can successfully continue the path we have chosen in the long term. Through honest work, clear decisions, and great joy, we want to help Borussia return to its former strength. There is still much for us to do here together."
