Liverpool wins against Newcastle 3-2 and the coach talks about the performance

Liverpool coach Arne Slot appeared in press statements after the 3-2 victory over Newcastle in the second round of the Premier League.

The coach said: "I feel relieved because when you are leading 2-0 against a team with ten players... then they come back to 2-2 and perhaps that was deserved too, and then they had more chances than us. Their fans were very loud – wow! It was an amazing atmosphere."

He added: "To finish the match with a goal in our best attack... the feeling is a great relief, we found a way to win."

Regarding the goal from young Rio Nguema who scored the winning goal: "It was a wonderful goal for a sixteen-year-old. He finishes attacks excellently for his age. I heard someone say afterward in the locker room that he would shoot on the first touch, but he is very confident. For his age, he is a really skilled striker."

Regarding his team conceding two goals, he clarified: "If we want to achieve what we aim for at the end of the season, we need to start keeping our net clean. We have conceded too many goals, it’s true that we scored too, but we need to improve the defense."

He concluded regarding signing new players before the transfer window closes (including Alexander Isak): "We need to talk about the match and Hugo Ekitike scoring for the third consecutive match. This is not the time or place to talk about anything else."
