This was evident as he kept Koundé and Olmo on the bench in the first two rounds of La Liga.

Despite renewing his contract, Koundé started the season as a substitute, as Flick relied on Eric Garcia in the right-back position, based on his impressive performance at the end of last season after Koundé's injury. Flick currently prefers to field Eric, who appears to be in better shape.

Olmo also did not start any matches due to a minor muscle injury during the preparation period, as Flick opted to gradually introduce him, and he came on as a substitute in the first two rounds, making a significant impact against Levante.
