Referee for Barcelona vs Levante in La Liga
The Spanish Football Federation has appointed international referee Alejandro Hernández Hernández to officiate the match between Levante and Barcelona, scheduled for tomorrow at the Ciudad de Valencia Stadium, as part of the second round of the La Liga season 2025/2026.
Hernández Hernández returns to referee a Barcelona match after more than three months since officiating the controversial Clasico against Real Madrid last May, which ended with a 4-3 victory for the Catalan team at the Montjuïc Stadium, and sparked widespread controversy after he ignored a clear penalty for a handball by Aurélien Tchouaméni.
During the last season, the referee officiated three matches for Barcelona, the most notable being the first leg in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey against Atlético Madrid, which ended in a 4-4 draw, and the league match against Sevilla, which Barcelona won 4-1.
Hernández Hernández has a long record with Barcelona in La Liga, having officiated 38 matches for the Catalan team, achieving 22 wins, 12 draws, and 4 losses, the last of which was against Girona in May 2024.
Referee Jorge Figueroa Vázquez will be responsible for the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) room, after also participating in officiating Barcelona's match against Mallorca in the opening round of the season.
