A German newspaper report on Thursday talked about the possibility of Manuel Neuer, the Bayern Munich goalkeeper, playing for the German national team again.

This comes after Neuer retired from international play in 2024, having started in 2009 and played 124 matches, being one of the heroes of the 2014 World Cup.

Bild reported that Rudi Völler, the director of the German national team, asked Neuer about the possibility of being part of the team in the 2026 World Cup finals.

It indicated that the response from the 39-year-old Bayern Munich captain was positive, which indeed opens the door for his return to the national team.

What strengthens the possibility of Neuer's return is his continued outstanding performance and the inefficiency of the substitute, given Marc-André ter Stegen's injury and his issues with Barcelona.
