Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong has agreed to a significant pay cut to extend his contract with the Catalan team.

According to reports, De Jong has informed Barcelona's management of his agreement to renew his contract for an additional two years, under which he will earn €9 million annually, which is more than 50% less than his current salary of €19 million.

The report indicated that Barcelona still owes the Dutch player substantial amounts in deferred salaries from the COVID-19 pandemic period, which must be paid during the new contract period, which will extend until the summer of 2028 if the signing is completed.

De Jong, who is 28 years old, recently changed his agent, a move that helped facilitate negotiations and reach a preliminary agreement with the club.

De Jong joined Barcelona in the summer of 2019 from Ajax Amsterdam for €86 million, and since then he has played 260 matches with the team, scoring 19 goals and providing 23 assists in various competitions.
