Barcelona Acknowledges Deficiencies in Spotify Camp Nou Renovation
Tuesday 19-08-2025
Barcelona has acknowledged the existence of deficiencies in the first phase of the renovation works at the Spotify Camp Nou, specifically in the main stand and the south goal area, which are the areas scheduled to open first to welcome around 27,000 fans.

According to reports, these deficiencies have forced the club's management to reconsider their plans and request a new meeting with the Barcelona municipality to discuss delaying the delivery date of the completion certificate, which is a document necessary for hosting official matches at the stadium.

Reports indicated that the deficiencies include safety aspects and other areas needing improvements, prompting the club to postpone the original timeline, which aimed to receive the certificate after the Joan Gamper Cup match, just about a week ago.

According to technical reports, the final certificate may not be ready before the end of August, despite the club's insistence on its plan to return to Camp Nou on September 14, coinciding with the match against Valencia in La Liga.

In light of this uncertain situation, Barcelona has already begun talks with the municipal services authority to activate an alternative plan that involves playing the Valencia match and the first Champions League match at the Montjuïc stadium.

The club must inform UEFA of its host stadium for the group stage matches before the draw scheduled for August 28, as the first round takes place from September 16 to 18, and the second round between September 30 and October 1.

However, the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys itself faces a logistical challenge, as it will host a concert by artist Post Malone on September 12, making it difficult to prepare for a match in less than 48 hours.

Additionally, the return to Spotify Camp Nou is at risk of being postponed if a swift agreement is not reached with the Barcelona municipality to expedite the delivery of the completion certificate and ensure the readiness of the affected areas.

This delay poses a significant challenge for the club, not only on a sporting level but also financially, as Barcelona relies on match revenues as part of its financial plan for the season, after two years of playing away from home.
