Moroccan National Team Qualifies for AFCON Quarterfinals After Victory Over Democratic Republic of Congo
The Moroccan national team succeeded in securing a spot in the quarterfinals of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) after a well-deserved victory over the Democratic Republic of Congo with a score of three goals to one, in a match that took place this Sunday afternoon, as part of the fifth and final round of the group stage (Group A).
The players of coach Tarik Skitiwi entered the match strongly, as Osama Al-Miliwi opened the scoring early in the eighth minute after a decisive pass from Youssef Belahmri. However, the early lead negatively affected the team's performance, allowing Congo to exploit the decline of the Moroccan team and equalize through Kitambala in the 44th minute, ending the first half with a score of one goal each.
At the start of the second half, Skitiwi made important tactical changes, most notably the entry of Khalid Baba, who energized the left side. The substitute was awarded a penalty in the 66th minute after a rough defensive intervention, which Rabi Harimat successfully converted into a second goal. The Moroccan pressure continued, with Osama Al-Miliwi returning in the 80th minute to score his second personal goal and the third for the team, confirming Morocco's superiority in this decisive match.
In the other match of the same group, the Kenyan team won against Zambia with a clean goal scored by Rambok Ogham in the 75th minute, securing the top spot with 7 points, followed by the Moroccan team in second place with 6 points.
With this qualification, the Moroccan team will face Tanzania in the quarterfinals, while the Kenyan team will meet Madagascar.
