Barcelona Rearranges Its Defensive Priorities
Sunday 17-08-2025
Spanish newspaper "Sport" revealed that Barcelona's coach Hans Flick and sporting director Deco held several meetings this week to finalize the team's plans for the summer transfer market. Flick wants to strengthen the defensive line with a player capable of playing as a center-back and left-back, despite the financial constraints imposed by the club's economic situation.

Barcelona is seeking to sign a young left-back not exceeding 23 years of age, to be eligible to register in the reserve team and gradually integrate into the first team. There are already names under consideration, and negotiations are ongoing, expected to conclude within two weeks.

At the same time, Flick is seriously considering promoting the young left-back Jofre Torents, after his impressive performance during the preparation period, as the German coach sees him more ready than expected. He may grant him a role in the first team as a direct competitor to Alejandro Balde, especially with Gerard Martin's chances diminishing, who may be used as a backup left-back.

The original plan was to keep Torents in the reserves and sign a more experienced left-back, like Grimaldo, while selling Gerard Martin, who has been in contact with Wolverhampton. However, the departure of Inigo Martinez and the continuation of Martin may open the door for Torents to be Balde's direct substitute, thus closing the file on signing a new left-back, with efforts focused on acquiring a young left center-back.

It is worth noting that Jofre Torents made his first appearance with the first team in the match against Real Mallorca at the age of 18, and he stated after the match: "I have achieved my dream, playing in La Liga with the Barcelona shirt has always been my goal. My family and I are very happy with this moment."
