Saturday 16-08-2025
International Saud Abdul Hamid recorded a historic moment for Saudi football after his first participation in the French league, when he came on as a substitute in his team's match against Lyon in the opening round of the competition.

Abdul Hamid moved to Lens on loan from Italian Roma for one season, receiving a warm welcome from the French team's fans who greeted him enthusiastically as he entered the field in the second half.

Despite the historic participation of the Saudi star, the match ended in a loss for Lens against their visitors Lyon with a score of one goal to none, scored by Georgian striker George Mikautadze in injury time of the first half.

Lyon's appearance in this match came after a difficult phase, as the club faced a financial crisis that nearly relegated it to the second division, before the new president Michelle Kang succeeded in convincing the financial oversight authority of its ability to remain in the spotlight league.

Lyon currently relies on prominent players such as Belgian Malick Fofana, who delivered a remarkable performance and provided the assist for the only goal, in addition to Mikautadze and Tolisso, while losing the services of their star Ryan Cherki who transferred to Manchester City.
