Barcelona Considers Financial Guarantee to Register Goalkeeper Juan Garcia

Tuesday 12-08-2025
The management of FC Barcelona is considering resorting to the option of a personal financial guarantee from the club president or one of the board members as an alternative solution to register goalkeeper Juan Garcia, in case the La Liga medical committee does not approve the use of part of Marc-André ter Stegen's salary under the financial fair play rules.

The Catalan club is awaiting the decision from the medical committee of La Liga in the coming hours, which will determine whether Ter Stegen's injury is classified as a long-term injury, which would allow the club to utilize a percentage of his salary to register the new goalkeeper.

If the absence period exceeds five months, Barcelona can use 80% of the salary; however, if the duration is only four months, the percentage will drop to 50%. If it is less than that, the club will not be able to financially benefit from the German goalkeeper's injury.

In this context, registering Juan Garcia is a top priority for Barca, especially with the Spanish league season approaching and the absence of reliable technical alternatives, as the backup goalkeeper Inaki Pena is not trusted by coach Hans Flick and has not participated in any minutes during the preparation period.

The club had previously informed Garcia's agents about the possibility of using the financial guarantee as a last resort, which is the same method used previously in the summer of 2022 to register player Kounde, through a personal guarantee from president Joan Laporta and treasurer Fran Olivert, which was later canceled after Gerard Piqué's departure and freeing up salary space.
