The Path of Libyan Clubs in the African Championship Draw
The draw for the preliminary round of the African Champions League and the Confederation Cup, conducted by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) today, Saturday, in Tanzania, resulted in matchups that seem manageable for Libyan clubs.
Champions League:
Libya's first representative faces Benin's Dadji.
Libya's second representative meets Guinea's Horia Conakry.
Confederation Cup:
Libya's first representative faces Burundi's Flambo.
Libya's second representative encounters Ethiopia's Wolaita Dicha.
The identity of the Libyan clubs participating in the two championships has not yet been determined due to the incomplete local competitions.
The champion of the Libyan Premier League will be determined tomorrow, Sunday, with the fifth and final round of the championship stage taking place.
The Libyan Football Federation is also seeking a suitable formula to complete the semi-final round and the final match of the Libyan Cup, following the difficulties faced in holding it in Italy.
Alaa Al-Daba, a member of the executive office of the Libyan Football Federation, stated in a video interview on the federation's Facebook page that the deadline for submitting the list of participating clubs is August 10, but the Libyan federation has requested CAF to extend the deadline to August 16, in order to include the cup champion among the participants.
If CAF agrees, the cup champion and the third place team in the league will represent Libya in the Confederation Cup, while the league champion and the runner-up will participate in the Champions League.
If rejected, the first and second place teams will participate in the Champions League, and the third and fourth place teams will compete in the Confederation Cup.
