Officially.. Ter Stegen Returns as Barcelona Captain
Saturday 09-08-2025
Barcelona announced in an official statement that German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen has returned to be the captain of the team, just a few days after the captaincy was taken away from him.

The Catalan club stated in its announcement: "Ter Stegen signed a mandate allowing the club's medical staff to provide the required medical report to the Spanish league, following his surgery."

It concluded: "The club confirms that the disciplinary file against the goalkeeper has been closed, and that Stegen will immediately regain the captain's armband of the first team."

Ter Stegen had been in a conflict with the club after he unilaterally announced his surgery and that he would be absent for three months, while the club management was planning to take advantage of his absence to save 80% of his salary to register new players, provided that his absence would last at least four months. Afterwards, the goalkeeper refused to sign the medical report that the club intended to submit to La Liga, which led the club to open a disciplinary procedure against him.
