Barcelona's Stance on Signing a New Defender

Friday 08-08-2025
Catalan newspaper "Sport" revealed that the management of FC Barcelona has definitively decided not to sign any new defenders during the current summer transfer window, despite Inigo Martinez's move to Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia.

The newspaper clarified that the club's top priority right now is to register players, especially the new signings, and ensure their readiness for the new season, rather than engaging in new deals that could complicate the club's financial situation further.

The newspaper pointed out that coach Xavi will rely on a group of currently available players in the center-back position, namely: Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen, Eric Garcia, and Pau Cubarsi, as the coaching staff believes these names are sufficient to cover the team's needs in this position.

It is worth mentioning that Barcelona has signed Juan Garcia, Marcus Rashford, and Rony Pedrigi this summer, but so far, the club has not been able to register them with La Liga, in addition to the new contract for Wojciech Szczesny.
