Barcelona Considers Changing Team Captains Due to Ter Stegen
Thursday 07-08-2025
Spanish media reports indicate that FC Barcelona is considering rearranging the team's captains, given the uncertainty surrounding goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen's position as the first captain after he refused to submit his medical report to La Liga, which could expose him to internal sanctions.

According to the Spanish newspaper "AS", the idea of conducting a new vote among players to choose the captains has become more plausible than ever, with coach Hans Flick retaining the right to reject certain names.

If the armband is taken from ter Stegen, Dutchman Frenkie de Jong is considered the primary candidate to take over the captaincy, followed by Raphinha and Ronald Araújo, while Pedri remains among the team's leaders. The name Gavi also stands out strongly as the first alternative candidate to join the group of captains, having gained the support of coach Flick and wearing the armband in one of the friendlies during the Asian tour.

Gavi is regarded as one of the most respected players in the locker room, and he has solidified his status by appearing at the training facility on the team's day off, alongside six other players, in a move that reflects his strong commitment to the spirit of the club.
