Barcelona Strips Ter Stegen of Captaincy
Wednesday 06-08-2025
Coach Hans Flick, based on direct instructions from the management, has decided to strip German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen of the captaincy, according to Catalan TV channel TV3.

This decision came after the club opened a formal disciplinary procedure against the German goalkeeper, as the management believes that his presence among the group of leaders is no longer appropriate under the current circumstances, prompting Flick to make this strict decision.

Reports indicate that the relationship between the goalkeeper and the club has reached a point of no return, as Ter Stegen has stopped direct personal communication with the management, and all communications are currently being handled through his agent, complicating the situation and adding to the ambiguity.

This development reflects a heated internal crisis within the Catalan club and raises many questions about the future of the German goalkeeper.

The crisis for Ter Stegen began after he proactively announced that he would undergo back surgery and would be absent for three months, while the club's management was planning to exploit his absence to save 80% of his salary to register new players, provided that his absence would last at least four months, before the goalkeeper recently refused to sign the medical report that the club intended to submit to La Liga.
