Thursday 31-07-2025
Omar Al-Hilali, the Moroccan right-back for the Spanish team Espanyol, is close to embarking on a new professional experience in the German Bundesliga, following a remarkable season he had with his team last year.

The African Foot website revealed that Bayer Leverkusen has shown significant interest in signing the Moroccan player during the ongoing summer transfer window, given the team's need to compensate for the departure of defender Jeremy Frimpong to Liverpool.

According to the same source, scouts from Leverkusen attended Espanyol's last friendly match to evaluate Al-Hilali's performance on the field before making a final decision regarding his acquisition.

It is anticipated that the German club's management will initiate the payment of the player's release clause, which is estimated at 25 million euros, along with offering an attractive annual salary to officially sign him.

Omar Al-Hilali (21 years old) had previously stated that he had not received any offer to extend his contract from Espanyol's management, confirming his desire to experience a new adventure outside of La Liga.

Last season, Al-Hilali played 37 matches with Espanyol, providing two assists and receiving an average rating of 6.8, making him the focus of several European clubs.

The young player aims to catch the attention of the Moroccan national team's coaching staff, hoping to secure a spot on the final roster participating in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled to take place in Morocco, and a move to the Bundesliga could provide a significant boost towards this goal.
