Barcelona is planning to renew the contract of Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong by making a long-term offer to ensure his continued presence with the team in the coming years.

According to the newspaper "Mundo Deportivo", Barcelona's management wants to sign a new contract with De Jong that extends until 2028, with an option for an additional season, should he continue to deliver his outstanding performances.

If the extension is completed, De Jong will have spent ten consecutive years with Barcelona since joining in 2019 from Ajax Amsterdam.

De Jong is considered a key player within the team and has the strong trust of coach Hans Flick, especially after shining in the defensive midfield position following his recovery from injuries.

The report indicated that the Dutch player has clearly improved defensively, showing remarkable physical abilities and effective contributions in ball circulation and disrupting opponents' attacks.

Earlier reports from Catalan media mentioned that the absence of De Jong's agent had caused delays in the negotiations for renewing his contract with Barcelona.
