Ter Stegen Scheduled for Back Surgery
Monday 28-07-2025
Reports have revealed the date for German goalkeeper Andre Ter Stegen of Barcelona to undergo back surgery, after his decision to not delay the medical intervention for complete recovery and return to participate with the team.

According to the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo", Ter Stegen is set to undergo surgery tomorrow, Tuesday, under the supervision of Dr. Emili Leglise, at the Sports Clinic Bordeaux Merignac, with the presence of the medical staff of FC Barcelona.

The German goalkeeper had announced that he would be out for three months after the surgery; however, medical estimates within the club suggest that his absence could extend to four months, prompting Barcelona to send an official report to the Spanish league to confirm the duration of his absence.

Barcelona needs the player's absence to be no less than four months to register a replacement and benefit from 80% of his salary according to La Liga regulations.

In the absence of Ter Stegen, coach Hans Flick has decided to rely on goalkeeper Juan Garcia, who comes from Espanyol, to be the starting goalkeeper in the upcoming period, after participating in 38 matches with his previous team last season, during which he kept a clean sheet in 8 matches and conceded 51 goals.

During his career with Espanyol, Garcia played 67 matches, keeping a clean sheet in 21 occasions and conceding 72 goals.
