Barcelona Considers Stripping Ter Stegen of Captaincy

Friday 25-07-2025
Reports have revealed that FC Barcelona is seriously contemplating stripping German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen of his captaincy, amid a wave of discontent within the Catalan club regarding the German keeper.

Ter Stegen announced yesterday that he would undergo surgery on his lower back, resulting in a three-month absence, which has upset the club that hoped to use 80% of his salary to register their new players. However, according to regulations, Barcelona cannot utilize this percentage unless the goalkeeper's absence extends to four months.

The Catalan newspaper "Sport" mentioned that there are voices within the club suggesting that the German goalkeeper does not prioritize the team's interests, prompting some officials to call for the captaincy to be taken from him.

The final decision regarding stripping Ter Stegen of the captaincy is expected to be made by German coach Hans Flick, who will determine the fate of the captaincy before the start of the new season.
