Real Madrid is facing an increasing problem with their Austrian defender David Alaba, who has become irrelevant to the team from a sporting perspective, while earning the third-highest salary in the squad after Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior.

Alaba, who is 33 years old, joined Real Madrid in 2021 from Bayern Munich, quickly establishing himself as a key defensive leader and contributing to the club's double victory in La Liga and the Champions League. However, his serious injury with a torn ACL in his left knee in December 2023 completely changed his career.

This injury kept him off the field for a long time, before he returned last January and participated in only 14 matches this season, most of which were as a substitute.

Moreover, recurring injuries, the latest being a meniscus injury, forced him to undergo another surgery, causing him to drop to fifth place in the team's defensive hierarchy under coach Xabi Alonso, with Raul Asensio emerging and the club signing Josin, alongside the recovery of Eder Militao.

Financially, Alaba earns a net annual salary of 22.5 million euros, with a contract that extends until June 2026, which represents a significant burden on the club's budget amid serious doubts about his ability to regain his previous level.

So far, Real Madrid has not received any offers for his transfer, leaving them obligated to honor his contract without achieving any notable sporting benefit.
