Spanish newspaper Sport revealed the main reason behind the failure of Nico Williams' transfer to Barcelona this summer, at a time when the Catalan club was confident of securing the player's services.

The report stated that Williams was considering two offers: the first from Barcelona, and the second to renew his contract with Athletic Bilbao, which made his agent, Felix Tainta, hesitant about the best option for the player's future.

The source added that the deal became more complicated when one of Barcelona's officials personally intervened and sent a message via WhatsApp to Nico, stating: "Leave Tainta, and let Jorge Mendes or Pini Zahavi represent you."

The newspaper clarified that this message reached Nico and his family, which greatly angered them, as they considered it an attempt to oust their agent who has been with them for many years and built a strong relationship of trust with them.

According to the newspaper, this tension was one of the main reasons that led the player to renew his contract and reject the move to the Catalan club.
