Doubts About Holding the Joan Gamper Cup at Camp Nou
Wednesday 16-07-2025
Catalan newspaper 'Sport' reported that FC Barcelona is preparing to cancel the Joan Gamper Cup match that was scheduled to take place at Spotify Camp Nou on August 10, due to the unpreparedness of the stadium.

Despite significant progress in renovation work over the past few weeks, the stadium will not be ready in time to obtain the necessary permits from the relevant authorities, prompting the club to decide against holding the match at Camp Nou.

Sources within the club confirmed that the current goal is to officially open the stadium on September 14, when Barcelona hosts Valencia in the team's first home match in the Spanish league. Estimates suggest that this date is possible, provided that all procedures are completed and all necessary licenses are obtained.

The newspaper clarified that the main reason for canceling the match is the incomplete work on the lower, first, and second floors, in addition to the fact that the stadium entrances are still not fit for use.

The club had hoped to host between 30,000 to 32,000 fans during the Joan Gamper Cup at Spotify Camp Nou, but this is no longer feasible given the current situation.

It is worth noting that the Joan Gamper Cup match may take place at Johan Cruyff Stadium, as the Catalan club does not intend to cancel the match.
