Real Madrid Faces Left-Back Crisis After Signing Carreras
Wednesday 16-07-2025
Spanish newspaper "AS" published a report confirming that Real Madrid is facing a crisis in the left-back position after signing Carreras, who joined the team in a deal worth 50 million euros, making him the second most expensive defender in the club's history.

This new signing has put the club in a position where they must sell one of their left-back players during the current summer transfer window.

According to the newspaper, the club is now forced to choose between letting go of Fran Garcia or Ferland Mendy, especially since both players are under contract until the summer of 2027, and neither of them wishes to leave the team.

The report clarified that Mendy seems to be the most likely to leave due to his declining performance and frequent injuries, as he has played only 11 minutes in the last 125 days and has suffered four injuries this season, in addition to turning 30 years old and seeing his market value drop to 14 million euros.

On the other hand, Fran Garcia's value has increased after his impressive performance in the Club World Cup, where he showcased strong defensive and offensive skills, scoring and assisting goals, which makes the club hopeful of selling him for over 25 million.

However, the report did not rule out the possibility of all three players staying if satisfactory offers do not arrive, although the ideal scenario for the club is to see one of them leave this summer.
