The Reality of Increasing Foreign Players in the Saudi League
The sports newspaper confirmed that the Saudi Football Federation has officially decided not to change the number of foreign players in the Roshan League for the new sports season 2025-2026, keeping the limit at only 10 players in each team's roster.
According to the decision, clubs will be able to register 10 foreign players in their lists, but only 8 of them are allowed to participate on the field during the match, while two sit on the bench without the possibility of free substitution.
Recently, there were rumors circulating on social media about the association's intention to increase the number of foreign players, but official sources denied the validity of that information, confirming that the system will remain unchanged.
Media personality Munir Al-Khatam stated on television that the talk of raising the number of professionals to more than 10 is inaccurate, clarifying that the federation has not issued any decision regarding this matter so far.
The decision provides clubs with a technical balance while maintaining opportunities for local players, and it takes into account the seasonal scheduling and the physical challenges associated with the intensity of local and continental tournaments.
In a related context, the Professional League Association announced the start date of the new season, as the Roshan League competitions will kick off on August 28, 2025, and conclude on May 21, 2026, amid widespread public anticipation.
