Spanish newspaper "AS" reported that French defender Ibrahima Konate has refused to renew his contract with Liverpool, as his current deal approaches its end in June 2026, preferring to wait until next summer to assess his future.

The newspaper clarified that Konate is seriously considering a move to Real Madrid, which has prioritized him for strengthening their defense next season, amid changes to the team's roster, with the expected departure of David Alaba at the end of his contract and a reassessment of Antonio Rudiger's situation.

Reports indicated that Liverpool's management is aware of Konate's intentions and fears a repeat of the scenario with Alexander Arnold, who also declined to extend his contract with the team and preferred a free transfer to Real Madrid this summer.

It is noted that Konate, 25 years old, participated in 42 matches with Liverpool last season across various competitions, scoring two goals and providing two assists, and is considered one of the key defensive elements relied upon by the team.
