Statements by Moamen Suleiman after the victory over Al-Talaba
After a wonderful match between Al-Shorta Club and its rival Al-Talaba in the quarter-finals of the Iraqi Cup, which ended in a positive draw (1-1) in regular time, before Al-Shorta decided it in the penalty shootout with a score of (4-1), the coach of the Green Lyre, Moamen Suleiman, made statements expressing his great pride in his team, outlining his observations on the match and his upcoming goals.
Moamen began his talk by saying:
"I take my hat off to the players; we faced one of the toughest matches of the season. We played with a man down since the 60th minute after Ahmed Zizo was sent off, yet the team fought and refused to give up. This result is the fruit of the spirit we possess."
The Egyptian coach clarified:
"We entered the match with high concentration, and the early goal in the second half gave us a strong boost. However, the red card changed all the calculations. Despite conceding the equalizing goal, the team held firm and clung to hope until the end."
Suleiman continued, saying:
"Penalty shootouts are a game of nerves, and my confidence in goalkeeper Ahmed Basel was very high. He is a player who doesn’t talk much, but he responds to everyone in tough situations. He saved two penalties and was undoubtedly the star of the match."
He noted, saying:
"Playing at the end of the season in this way is very exhausting; we didn’t take any time to rest after the league concluded. The players are physically and mentally exhausted, but they provided a great lesson in determination and patience."
He added:
"I treat the Iraqi Cup as a supplementary tournament, but it is important. We want to finish the season with a double. We will face Zakho in the semi-finals, a well-organized team with notable names, and preparations for this confrontation will start immediately. Reaching the final is a goal we will not retreat from."
He concluded his remarks with a message of love to Al-Shorta fans:
"You are the beating heart of the team. Your support is priceless. I have become attached to Al-Shorta Club in a way that I cannot describe, and I promise you that we will continue to fight until the end for you."
