FIFA Cancels Third Place Match in Club World Cup
Tuesday 08-07-2025
The International Football Federation (FIFA) has confirmed that the current edition of the Club World Cup will not feature a third place match, as was the case in previous editions of the tournament.

This decision comes as part of the effort to allow clubs and players who did not qualify for the final match to transition to their upcoming commitments as quickly as possible, ahead of the new season.

FIFA clarified that the decision was made to support the busy schedule of clubs, especially given the proximity of local and international tournament dates, making it important to reduce the number of matches to avoid fatigue and match congestion.

It is noteworthy that the Club World Cup is currently being held in the United States, with 32 teams participating, and it is set to take place every four years.
