Lyon Receives UEFA Approval to Participate in the Europa League
Friday 27-06-2025
Olympique Lyonnais announced on its official website that it has received approval from the financial oversight body of the UEFA (European Football Association) to participate in the Europa League for the 2025/2026 season, after reviewing its financial situation and confirming its ability to meet its obligations.

According to 'Foot Mercato', this approval came after significant efforts from the club's management led by President John Textor and Director Michael Gerlinger, as they provided financial guarantees that included a commitment to inject an additional investment of 35 million euros before July 15.

Despite this European approval, Lyon is still awaiting the appeal submitted against the decision of the National Financial Oversight Committee in France regarding the precautionary relegation to the second division due to its accumulated financial crises.

It is worth mentioning that Lyon finished last season in sixth place in Ligue 1 and performed well in the Europa League, but the difficult financial situation raised doubts about its continental future before UEFA confirmed its position by granting the club the green light to participate.
